Preoperative Guide

1. Consultation

  • To determine the operation item, operation program and operation process needs the intercourse with the doctor which may be of many times.

2. Self Preparation

  • 1) Mental Preparation: the patient should consider whether he/she has totally appreciated the operation program, recognizes the operation design of the main operator, has well known the operation risks and is ready to accept tumescence, ache, cyanosis and distinct scar in the operation field.
  • 2) Preparation for Time: a relatively long period of rest before the operation, 3-15 days dependent on the operation, is conducive to the post-operation restoration so that the patient should prepare in advance. The female had better not have the operation during menses.

4. Preoperative Preparation

  • 1) One day before the operation, the patient should bathe and clean especially the operation field, and if necessary, trim nails and shaven the hair in the operation field (the hair also can be shaven in hospital).
  • 2) The patient needing the general or combined spinal and epidural anesthesia can not dine or drink 6 hours before the operation. Pullover is prohibited while loose clothing is recommended.
  • 3) The patient needing hospitalization had better carry washing and gargling appliance.
  • 4) Acquaint the path before hand. Travel by car or bike is prohibited, for most patients after operation are disqualified to drive.
  • 5) The old and young whose post-operative movement may not be convenient should be accompanied by the household.

5. Operation Date

  • 1) After the eye operation, It will be better the patient take a ice pack compress at eyelid.
  • 2) Before leaving, the patient should affirm the post-operative do's and don'ts and whether the sulfa drug is carried and the telephone number of the doctor is acquainted.

6. Post-operative Follow-up

  • 1) The patient should consult the doctor further if any problem happens after operation.
  • 2) The dressing change and disconnection should follow the medical order.
  • 3) The patient will be counterchecked after one or three months to observe the operation effects.
  • 4) If necessary, the follow-up may be by telephone or in letters.
